Ambulance returned to BBC One on Tuesday night for its latest series – and it was a tearjerker within minutes.
The programme, which follows the ups and downs of workers in the NHS Ambulance Service, introduced viewers to call handler Ellie.
She received a particularly dramatic call on her final shift before becoming an Ambulance Support Worker from a man who needed assistance in helping his wife to deliver their baby.
In a total panic, he admitted: ‘She’s actually about to give birth. What should I do?’
Ellie then went on to give the man the information he needed to help his wife deliver the baby safely ahead of the ambulance’s arrival.
The call handler advised: ‘Now, if the baby delivers, support the baby’s head and shoulders. The baby will be slippery so don’t drop it, okay?’

The panicked caller went on to explain that he was no longer able to see the baby’s head.
One of Ellie’s colleagues advised that he should ask his wife if she is having contractions.
He could be heard saying: ‘Chels, keep pushing.’
Ellie assured the man that help was on the way and that the ambulance was blue lighting to his house.
‘Chels, you’re doing amazing. That’s it,’ the man said.
As the woman could be heard screaming in the background of the call, Ellie calmly encouraged the man to encourage her to keep pushing.
Shortly after, the man was able to say that the baby had been safely delivered and said that the child was breathing and crying.
‘He’s here, Chels. He’s here,’ he said.
By the end of the call, the ambulance had arrived and the man expressed his thanks to Ellie for her role in helping to successfully deliver the baby
