A HAPPY couple who first met when he was crushed beneath a car celebrate with a smiling wedding photo — at the crash scene.
Kirsty Southern, 43, raced to help after seeing Ryan McLeod, 46, hit and trapped under the vehicle on the zebra crossing.
She comforted him until a 999 crew arrived and admits that she looked to see if he was wearing a wedding ring as she found him attractive.
Ryan was taken from the scene in Corby, Northants, to hospital where he needed extensive reconstructive surgery to his lower left leg.
He made a Facebook appeal for witnesses which Kirsty spotted and responded to.
The pair chatted online, began dating and fell in love.
Last year Ryan proposed and they wed on October 11 — five years after they met.
Mum-of-one Kirsty, a customer service agent, said: “It’s a lovely story. I still barely believe it. Seems the universe looked at us and said ‘yep, they belong together’.”
On the accident, she said: “I saw him go under the car and he was banging on the side of it. I went behind him to tell him to lean on me.
“I did have a sneaky look at his ring finger and saw it was empty as I thought he was good looking!”
Dad-of-two Ryan said: “I didn’t see Kirsty’s face as she was sat behind me propping me up. It wasn’t until she responded to my request that I looked at her profile and thought she was pretty.”
