POLL OF THE DAY: Was Prince Andrew right to give up his royal titles?

  • Cast your vote on the biggest talking points of the day, every day at 12pm
  • Final results will be announced in tomorrow’s poll

Last night Prince Andrew finally agreed to relinquish all his remaining titles following another week of damaging scandal.

He announced he would no longer be known as the Duke of York and was stepping down from membership of the Order of the Garter.

Andrew will also relinquish his position as Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order but he will remain a prince, having been born the son of Queen Elizabeth.

He said his decision, made after strong pressure from King Charles and in discussion with other family members, was prompted by his desire to ‘always… put my duty to my family and country first’.

The move will likely come as a relief among members of the Royal Family that the King’s brother had finally ‘fallen on his sword’ following a string of scandals.

It is understood that the King, who is believed to have spoken to his brother by phone from Scotland about the issue, feels ‘glad’ at the outcome.

Now we are asking Mail readers what you think – was it the right decision for Andrew to relinquish his royal titles after clinging on to them for so many years?

In yesterday’s poll, Mail readers were asked: Should Israeli football fans be banned from watching their team play in Birmingham? Out of more than 38,000 votes, 87 per cent of you said ‘no’ and 13 per cent said ‘yes’.

It is understood that the King (right), who is believed to have spoken to his brother by phone from Scotland about the issue, feels 'glad' that Andrew (left) has relinquished his royal titles
