A MAN has revealed that he still swears by the affordable meal his mother used to make him – which he described as a “council house classic.”
So if you’re on a budget but are looking for recipes that are tasty and purse-friendly, fear not, you’ve come to the right place.

Posting on social media, Robbie Bell shared the recipe he can’t get enough of – and it’s sure to leave your mouth-watering.
Not only is it super hearty and great for chilly winter nights, but it’ll cost you just 52p a person too – yes, you heard that correctly.
In a short clip shared online with the caption “It was one of my mam’s signature dishes. Dishes like this could feed a family of six for under a brass button,” the owner and head charcutier of City Larder shared a step-by-step guide on how to make his mum’s classic.
The famous chef who hosts the Cooking the Books, one of Australia‘s top hospitality podcasts, said: “Check this out for a proper council house classic – stuffed jacket tatties.
“Some people stuff them with cheese, mine was corned beef – to be honest, I love everything with corned beef, corned beef and onion sandwiches, corned beef slice, corned beef pasty, corned beef hash, corned beef fritters, it’s true nostalgia.
“Anyway, roast your potatoes, scoop out the inside, mix it with the corned beef, put a bit of cheese on them and give them a grill.”
Showing off the finished dish, Robbie beamed: “Have them with Heinz beans, you’ll be buzzing.”
The tasty three-ingredient meal, which is super quick and easy to make, is also perfect for those struggling to get to the next payday.
For six people, it’ll cost just 52p each – you can pick up a pack of grated cheese from Sainsbury’s for just £1.35 and a pack of baking potatoes, also just 79p from Sainsbury’s.
To finish off the dish, you’ll need to nab yourself some corned beef, which is only £1 from Iceland.
Foodies beam
Robbie’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @robbiebell8, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 146,600 views in just three days.
Not only did many describe the meal as “delicious” and “yum,” but others were eager to give it a try themselves.
One person said: “Never thought of adding corned beef to a jacket. I will be doing them soon.”
Another added: “I’m like you, I just love the stuff, but I’ve never tried this, so giving this a go at the weekend.”
A third commented: “Top tier.”
