PAWS and feel the love for these shots of 13 guide dog pups known as The Baker’s Dozen.
Charity Guide Dogs is celebrating its largest litter for three years after four-year-old Yori, a golden retriever-Labrador cross, had them in Chipping Campden, Gloucs.
The eight-week-old arrivals have been given bakery-themed names in honour of the charity’s Puppy Appeal and are set to rise to the challenge of becoming life-changing guide dogs in 2027.
Janine Dixon, at Guide Dogs, said: “We didn’t know Yori had quite so many buns in the oven. We’re thrilled all 13 thrived thanks to the work of our volunteers and staff.”
In 2023, wire-haired Dachshund Winnie, three, popped out a mammoth brood of 11 puppies.
Owner Rayma went to bed after the tenth and could not believe it when she woke to find another arrival.
She said: “I really thought she’d finished! I was astonished by the size of the litter. She’s a natural.
“She even has ten nipples so she can nearly feed them all at the same time – it’s very sweet to watch.
Rayma, who bought Winnie at age seven months, used a stud dad and had been expecting around six pups, the average litter size.
She planned to sell them and could get up to £2,500 for each.
Rayma, who lived near Leicester, added: “I can’t live with 11 puppies or I’ll become a crazy dog lady!”
It was understood Guinness World Records does not keep records for individual dog breeds.
The biggest previous Dachshund litter, it is thought, is the ten born to Cheesecake in Lincoln in 2021.
