DARKER evenings are the perfect time to indulge in a little extra self-care for your skin.
You needn’t splash out on pricey products, just raid your kitchen shelves to whip up masks and scrubs that feel fantastic.
Here are some easy yet effective ways you can create your own skin saviours . . .
FACE MASK: Honey has antibacterial properties that can help soothe and nourish skin.
Try mixing a spoonful with a soft banana, which is rich in vitamins.
You could also add a little avocado if you have some that needs using up.

Apply the mixture to your face and let it stay there for ten to 15 minutes before washing off with warm water.
SCRUB: Exfoliating helps remove dead cells to leave skin feeling brighter.
You can make an easy body scrub using three heaped tablespoons of coarse sea salt, mixed with olive oil. If you have essential oils, add a couple of drops to give it an uplifting or relaxing aroma.
Simply rub the scrub in circular motions on damp skin and wash off in the shower.
You can also create a gentler scrub for your face and lips with brown sugar in this concoction from Holland & Barrett.
Mix two tablespoons of brown sugar with half a spoon each of olive oil and honey, plus half a teaspoon of cinnamon.
Apply with your fingertips in small careful motions across your skin.
BATH TIME: Having a relaxing soak in a warm bath is perfect on dark and cold evenings.
Try adding one or two cups of milk to the water to help moisturise and soften your skin.
You could also pop in a couple of spoonfuls of baking soda to help lift dead skin cells.
And Epsom salt is another great ingredient to add to a bath for relaxation and skin benefit. Wilko sells packs for £1.29.
