Victoria Beckham’s Netflix series promised to give viewers a brand new insight into the designer’s life and career.
From the makers of Beckham and Michelle Obama‘s Becoming, Victoria’s self-titled series charts the manic run-up to her Paris Fashion Week show last September.
Netflix commissioned the series following the success of David Beckham’s documentary in 2023, which saw a record breaking 3.8million viewers tune in during the first week of its release.
And the new show hasn’t disappointed, with Victoria delivering a number of explosive revelations in the three-part series.
Among them are shock feuds with fellow celebrities as well as emotional moments spent with her family.
Now, Daily Mail reveals the 10 most surprising moments in Victoria’s docuseries.
As Victoria Beckham is officially released on Netflix, Daily Mail reveals the 10 most surprising moments in the three-part docuseries
Victoria’s out of control spending
Much of the show examines the near collapse of Victoria’s eponymous fashion brand and how they managed to turn around its fate.
Victoria Beckham racked up losses of over £66 million after its launch in 2008, finally making a profit in 2023 – the first time in 15 years.
At the time, an £890 clutch bag, a £30 eyeliner and a carefully orchestrated social media strategy which saw her post make-up tutorial videos on TikTok were credited with the turnaround.
Yet in her series, businessman David Belhassen – who invested in her failing brand – explained that he also helped by reining in her excessive spending habits.
In one shock admission he revealed the designer was spending £85,000 just on plants for the office.
‘She loved plants,’ David mused. ‘And it was costing her £70,000 a year. And then there was someone who was coming to water the plants for 15,000 a year – and that’s only the beginning!’
Victoria’s business partner David Belhassen – who invested in her failing brand – revealed the designer was spending £85,000 just on plants for the office
He continued: ‘So I went her and I decided to just tell the truth, exactly the way it is, and I didn’t know how she’d react.
‘I said, “Victoria we have to change everything, restructure the business, and that’s gonna be painful”, and when I finished she just listened and she left a little silence.’
Victoria explained: ‘I took it on the chin, it was hard hearing those things. I hadn’t been to business school, I’d come from an entertainment background.
‘I didn’t realise it at the time but the waste was mind-blowing.
‘I mean, I had 15 different linings for the insides of outerwear, bizarre things like flowing chairs from one side of the world to the other. I hear it now and I’m horrified but I allowed that to happen.
‘I think part of the problem was people were really afraid to tell me no – there’s a power to be honest, the power of celebrity. People thought I wasn’t used to hearing no.’
Mel B’s ‘hurtful’ comment
Victoria recalled an ‘upsetting’ comment from Mel B after she said she didn’t want to join the Spice Girls for their reunion tour
Victoria recalled an ‘upsetting’ comment from Mel B after she said she didn’t want to join the Spice Girls for their reunion tour.
While she had joined them for their first reunion in 2008, she decided not to go back when they came together again in 2019.
Since then, Mel B has been vocal about her desire to get back on tour and has publicly lambasted Victoria for not taking part.
Victoria confessed she was ‘hurt’ by one of Scary Spice’s comments, explaining: ‘It upset me not too long ago actually – Melanie B said to me “don’t forget where you’ve come from.”‘
She explained: ‘This upset me not too long ago actually – Melanie B said to me “don’t forget where you’ve come from.”‘
She insisted: ‘I have never forgotten where I’ve come from. I have never forgotten that Posh Spice is the reason that I’m sitting here now.
‘She might have been grumpy but she was actually great.
‘It was good to celebrate the Spice Girls but it was during that [2008] tour that I realised I didn’t belong on stage. It had been fun but it wasn’t what I loved anymore.’
Victoria has a naughty sense of humour
While Victoria famously doesn’t smile in public, behind closed doors she showed off her cheeky side
While Victoria famously doesn’t smile in public, behind closed doors she showed off her cheeky side.
In one scene, the designer was hosting fittings, with the mother-of-four seen adjusting a pair of shorts on a model.
Yet as she attempted to fit the garment she accidentally touched the model’s underwear and exclaimed: ‘Oh god, that was your knickers! I’m so sorry.’
As Victoria and the model burst into laughter, she continued: ‘Don’t pull down her knickers! Not for Netflix, it’s not that kind of movie, Christ!’
During another meeting with her fashion team, talk soon turned to the fact husband David owned several chickens at their Cotswolds home.
When asked about their chicken house, Victoria said: ‘It’s impressive’, before cheekily adding: ‘You should see his cock! It’s magnificent.’
A ‘rude moment’ with Donatella Versace
Donatella Versace flew Victoria over to Milan on a private jet for a fashion show in 1997, yet the Spice Girl ‘rudely’ made alterations to the Italian designer’s clothes
The former singer revealed that she always had a love of fashion and would blow the Spice Girls wardrobe budget on Gucci dresses while her bandmates would happily rummage for looks in charity shops.
In 1997 she was invited to her first fashion show, with Donatella Versace flying the singer over to Milan on a private jet.
Victoria was taken to a Versace shop to pick out a look for the show, ultimately opting for what had become her staple – a little black dress.
Yet unimpressed with the fit, she ended up making alterations – asking the store staff to tighten the waist, shorten the hemline and take off the sleeves.
‘I basically redesigned the whole dress,’ Victoria mused. ‘I can’t believe I did that. So rude!’
Unsurprisingly, the move did not go down well with Donatella, who made a cameo in Victoria’s documentary to warn: ‘You shouldn’t do it. That’s how I feel.’
Asked if she was ‘surprised’ by Victoria’s boldness, Donatella continued: ‘Yeah, and I thought “how does she dare?” [sic]’
Yet she conceded: ‘Then I realised it was better on her the way she did it. She knows her body.’
David ‘mum-guilted’ her into going back on tour
Just as Victoria was making a name for herself in fashion circles, she found herself being pulled back into the pop world when David convinced her to join the 2008 Spice Girls reunion
Just as Victoria was making a name for herself in fashion circles, she found herself being pulled back into the pop world.
She explained: ‘When I was working with Roland [Mouret] the other Spice Girls told me they wanted to go on tour…
‘David was like, “it’s really good for the kids to see you do this”, he mum-guilted me!’
The camera then cut to David reasoning: ‘Our kids weren’t around to see their mum be a Spice Girl!
Victoria agreed to the 2008 reunion tour and confessed: ‘I hadn’t been Posh Spice for such a long time. It was good to be back with them.’
The Spice Girls reformed again in 2019, however this time Victoria refused to join them.
Victoria explained: ‘It was good to celebrate the Spice Girls but it was during that [2008] tour that I realised I didn’t belong on stage. It had been fun but it wasn’t what I loved anymore.’
The real reason that Victoria doesn’t smile
Victoria revealed that she doesn’t smile on the red carpet because David always stands on her left hand side and she doesn’t like the way she looks smiling from that angle
Over the years Victoria became synonymous for her steely pout, always failing to crack a smile at public events.
Now Victoria has revealed why she doesn’t flash her pearly whites on the red carpet – and it’s all to do with husband David.
She explained: ‘Here’s a fact, I’ve looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy has always [stood] on the left.
‘Now I didn’t realise that when I smile – which I do! – I smile from the left, because if I smile from the right, I look unwell.
‘So I’m smiling on the inside but no one ever sees it – so that’s why I look so moody.’
Victoria hasn’t had chocolate in THREE decades
When David offered Victoria a mini Cadbury Wispa, she responded: ‘No thank you i haven’t touched chocolate since the Nineties, I’m not going to start now!’
In one scene, Victoria was seen getting ready to join David at a royal dinner hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla in February.
Ahead of leaving, the pair gathered in the kitchen, with David pulling out a mini Cadbury Wispa and offering it to her.
Looking shocked, Victoria shared: ‘No thank you i haven’t touched chocolate since the Nineties, I’m not going to start now!’
She did reveal she had one vice, however, as she immediately started sipping on a large glass of red wine.
With David keen to get going, he turned to her asked: ‘Do you want to take this in the car? Why don’t you put in a sippy cup with a straw?’
Victoria then quipped: ‘Should put it through an intravenous drip, let’s be honest!’
Brooklyn’s shock cameo
Brooklyn Beckham and wife Nicola Peltz made an unexpected appearance in Victoria’s Netflix docuseries, appearing in the background of footage shot at the designer’s Paris 2024 show
Brooklyn Beckham and wife Nicola Peltz make an unexpected appearance in the docuseries despite their estrangement from Victoria.
The couple have been locked in a family feud for months and haven’t been pictured with Brooklyn’s parents since Boxing Day last year.
But they do make a blink and you miss it cameo in Victoria’s latest venture – her Netflix series focusing on her fashion business successes and struggles.
In scenes filmed at Victoria’s September 2024 Paris Fashion Week show, the designer launches into an emotional monologue about her desire to make her family and colleagues proud.
The montage cuts between images of Victoria’s collaborators, with Brooklyn and Nicola seen mingling with guests in the background.
The rest of Victoria’s family – husband David and kids Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, all get more screen time and are shown proudly sitting on the front row ready for the show.
Victoria’s eating disorder battle
In emotional scenes, Victoria revealed she suffered from an eating disorder which she became good at lying about so she could hide it from even her closest family
In emotional scenes, Victoria revealed she suffered from an eating disorder which she became good at lying about so she could hide it from even her closest family.
She confessed: ‘I really started to doubt myself and not like myself and because I let it affect me, I didn’t know what I saw when I looked in the mirror.
‘Was I fat? Was I thin? I don’t know, you lose all sense of reality. I was just very critical of myself. I didn’t like what I saw. I have been everything from porky posh to skinny posh, I mean, it’s been a lot and that’s hard.
‘I had no control over what was being written about me or the pictures that were being taken and I suppose I wanted to control that. I could control it with the clothing, I could control my weight. I was controlling my weight in an incredibly unhealthy way.
‘When you have an eating disorder you become very good at lying. And I was never honest about it with my parents.
‘I never spoke about it publicly, it really affects you. When you’re told constantly you’re not good enough. And I suppose that’s been with me my whole life.’
She explained her body confidence agony began when she was just a teenager and won a place at the Laine Theatre school in Epsom, Surrey .
‘I didn’t look like a lot of the other girls,’ she recalled. ‘That’s where I started getting a lot of criticism about my appearance, my weight.
‘I remember the principle of the theatre school saying to me, you know, at the end of the show we are going to just fly in. “You girls can be flown in” meaning that we weren’t looking as aesthetically pleasing as some of the others, ‘so we’ll just fly you in the back.’
Victoria’s mother Jackie added that the star was told ‘you’re overweight. You’ll be at the back.’
She continued: ‘It must have affected her, it’s a very silly thing to say to someone, “you’re fat.”‘
The truth behind her Baden-Baden antics
In 2006, the world became transfixed when the wives and girlfriends of the footballers descended upon Baden-Baden, causing chaos with their outlandish antics and outfits
In 2006, the world became transfixed when the wives and girlfriends of the England squad descended upon Baden-Baden for the World Cup, causing chaos with their outlandish antics and show-stopping outfits.
And Victoria addressed the WAGs’ wild antics in Germany by admitting she was simply ‘attention seeking’.
Then, Victoria – undeniably queen of the WAGs – was seen partying with the likes of Coleen Rooney, Cheryl Cole and Toni Terry and reflecting on the moment, she said in her new self-titled Netflix documentary, she confessed: ‘It was fun! I had big boobs, I had big hair.’
‘It was a moment in time. We were the WAGs and they were the HABs – husbands and boyfriends. Us ladies were shopping and we were owning it.’
As a montage of her iconic Baden-Baden moments flashed on screen she added: ‘I look at those pictures and i smile but when I look back and think why?
‘I suppose there was an element of attention-seeking if I’m being completely honest.
‘I didn’t feel creatively fulfilled so it’s how I stayed in the conversation – from Spice Girl to WAG.
‘I didn’t realise it at the time but I was trying to find myself. I felt incomplete, sad, frozen in time. I was appreciative of what I had but I need a sense of purpose.’
Victoria’s pregnancy struggle
When Victoria fell pregnant with eldest child Brooklyn she was in the midst of a bumper world tour with the Spice Girls where she was performing in a PVC catsuit
When Victoria fell pregnant with eldest child Brooklyn she was in the midst of a bumper world tour with the Spice Girls.
She revealed there was no chance of taking it easy, recalling: ‘It was August in Miami, I was a couple of months pregnant, it was so hot, I was in a PVC catsuit!
‘I had a bucket on the side of the stage that I would run off to be sick in because I had such bad morning sickness.
‘My PVC catsuit was having to be let out on a daily basis because I was growing.
‘I turned round to my tour director and said “I just can’t go on”, he’d say, “there’s only 102 shows left to do.”‘
