A woman who tried to kidnap a seven-month-old baby from her pram outside a seaside shop before spitting at police during her arrest has been jailed.

Brazen would-be kidnapper Nicolette Goldrick, 51, caused ‘unimaginable terror’ when she calmly walked up to a pink pram parked outside an ice cream shop on Central Drive, Blackpool, as the baby’s mother briefly stepped inside.

CCTV captured the shocking moment Goldrick, dressed in a black hoodie and jeans, inspected the sleeping child before releasing the pram’s brake and beginning to push it down the street.

The disturbing footage shows Goldrick peering over her shoulder several times as she wheels the pram away – her face covered by a mask.

Inside the shop, the baby’s mother was paying for a delivery when she looked up to see the pram moving away. She ran outside screaming, sprinting after Goldrick in panic.

With the help of a passer-by, the horrified mother managed to wrestle the pram back from Goldrick just yards down the road.

The 51-year-old said nothing, simply walking away as if nothing had happened, the court heard.

Goldrick then returned to the same spot later that afternoon, on May 10, and was arrested by police.

As officers led her to a police van, Goldrick hurled vile abuse at them before spitting at one of the officers once inside.

Goldrick later pleaded guilty to child abduction and assaulting an emergency worker at Preston Crown Court, where she was sentenced to 12 months in prison and handed a five-year restraining order.

A victim impact statement read out in court described the horrifying ordeal as ‘the worst day of their lives and something they would never get over.’

Tom Snape, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said: ‘Nicolette Goldrick’s brazen actions caused unimaginable terror as she attempted to abduct a baby.

‘This incident encapsulates every parent’s worst nightmare, forcing her mother to chase after her.

‘Goldrick’s abuse to the officers upon her arrest suggests she has little remorse for her actions.

‘I hope the baby’s parents can begin to move forward knowing Goldrick has faced the consequences of her actions.’
