British boyband star is ‘arrested for assaulting woman and child as police race to his home after 999 call’

A British boyband star was arrested for ‘assaulting a woman and child’ when police visited his home after receiving an alarming 999 call.

The musician, who is a household name, was detained and taken in for questioning before being released on bail.

Officers decided there was insufficient evidence to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Officers are said to have issued a ‘Domestic Abuse Protection Notice’ against the star, meaning they had reasonable grounds to suspect there had been abuse.

Protection notices were introduced this year, and allow police to impose certain conditions on alleged abusers – such as requiring them to leave the victim’s home for 48 hours.

Officers are then required to apply for a ‘Domestic Abuse Protection Order’, which allows courts to impose conditions and restrictions on perpetrators of domestic abuse.

But in this case, a magistrate refused to grant the order against the famous musician, who is facing no charge.

The star often appears as a regular guest on TV shows and gives interviews to some of the biggest magazines.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Officers responded and spoke to a woman who said she had been assaulted by a man known to her, approximately two weeks ago.

‘Further enquiries were carried out however there was insufficient evidence to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service.

‘Officers authorised a Domestic Abuse Protection Notice. However, a Domestic Abuse Protection Order was not granted by the magistrate.’
