Ryder Cup 2027 captain odds as Tiger Woods in USA contention and Luke Donald set for two more years to lead Team Europe

AFTER an exhilarating Sunday singles to round off a truly memorable Ryder Cup in New York, attention is ALREADY turning to 2027.

Defending champions Europe were utterly dominant at Bethpage to win all four sessions across Friday and Saturday, with the record books opening up for what looked to be the biggest win ever.

But rumours are getting louder that Tiger Woods could lead the side in Ireland

But an heroic comeback from Team USA set up a grandstand finish, with Europe sealing victory in the penultimate match via Tyrrell Hatton’s half point.

The 15-13 victory came with some controversy with Viktor Hovland withdrawing through injury and that’s dominated the chat since the result was determined.

That, and the captaincy in 2027 when Europe will look for a three-peat when hosting at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Chants of “two more years” were loud and consistent from the traveling European support for Luke Donald when he addressed the crowd during the trophy presentation.

Donald – now one of the greatest Ryder Cup captains in history – joined Tony Jacklin as the only other man to skipper a home and away win as European captain.

Questioned on leading the team in Ireland, Donald quipped: “I don’t think my heart can take two more years.”

However, he later added: “We’ll see.”

He has the ultimate respect from every Team Europe member, highlighted by the words Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm said after the win was secured.

Once the dust settles, it will be hard for him to turn down you would think and bookmakers William Hill make him a 4/6 odds-on shot to lead the team once more.

Should be stand down, Justin Rose is the 4/1 second favourite and had been widely tipped to lead the team there.

But after a fantastic playing performance in New York, he could look to keep on playing.

Francesco and Edoardo Molinari are both 6/1, with Nicolas Colsaerts 9/1 and Padraig Harrington a 10/1 shot to lead the team in his homeland.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Chants of ‘two more years’ were ringing round Bethpage Black yesterday afternoon and we think European fans could get their wish, as we make Luke Donald odds-on to captain Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup.

“Donald is 4/6 with us to try for the hat-trick at Adare Manor, but he has hinted that he may not want to take up the captaincy again.

“In that instance, we make Justin Rose his likeliest successor at 4/1 after the Englishman put on another brilliant display at his seventh Ryder Cup.

“From within Donald’s team of vice captains, Francesco Molinari is a 6/1-shot, alongside brother Edoardo who was part of the staff for the 2023 victory in Rome.

Interestingly, Keegan Bradley is the favourite with William Hill to lead the team in 2027, despite losing at Bethpage.

Bradley himself had a massive decision to make in the lead up to this year’s edition – whether to play or solely captain his side.

He opted to put full focus into his captaincy but it looked like a terrible decision when losing all four sessions across Friday and Saturday.

Most of his decisions were rightly scrutinised, none more so than deciding to put Harris English and Collin Morikawa out again in the Saturday foursomes after a horror show on the Friday.

Bradley kept reiterating the team ‘had a plan’ and he almost made everyone look foolish when mounting a stunning Sunday comeback to only lose 15-13 in the end.

We’d be having a much different conversation if that didn’t materialise.

But it was a loss nonetheless at a course they couldn’t lose on. Though he had the backing of his players and could be set to try and win away from home.

Bradley is the 2/1 favourite with William Hill to captain the side in 2027, ahead of Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson at 4/1.

The weekend saw the murmurings of a captaincy spot in 2027 for Tiger Woods increase and get louder and louder.

The G.O.A.T would strike fear into the European side and his presence as a USA leader would severely increase their chances of winning on Irish soil.

He’s 5/1 alongside Kevin Kisner, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk.

Lee Phelps of William Hill said: “Keegan Bradley will no doubt be after his revenge having suffered a devastating loss on home soil and he’s the 2/1 favourite to lead the US in 2027.”
