TWO female pensioners have been left fighting for their lives after being hit by a reversing van.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Lowbourne, Wiltshire, after a reversing white Ford Transit van collided with two female pedestrians in their 70s.
A 25-year-old man from Melksham has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.
He has been bailed while cops await evidential samples and to allow further enquiries to be carried out.
The two women were taken to hospital, where they remain in life-threatening conditions.
Sergeant James Twyford from the Roads Policing Unit said: “This was a serious incident which has resulted in two elderly women suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.
“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene and we would like to thank the public for their support with this investigation.
