Howdy, Princess! Kate poses in cowboy hat with England rugby stars as she wishes them the ‘very best of luck’ ahead of Women’s Rugby World Cup Final

The Princess of Wales has wished England the very best of luck ahead of their clash with Canada in the Women’s Rugby World Cup this evening.

Kate, 43 posted a message on Instagram, sending her support for the Red Roses as they prepare for the match, also confirming that she will not be attending.

The mother-of-three is patron of the Rugby Football Union, a role she took over from Prince Harry in 2020 when he stepped down as a working royal and moved to the US with Meghan Markle.

Taking to the social media platform she shares with her husband Prince William, 43, Kate wrote: ‘Good luck England! Wishing the very best of luck to the @redrosesrugby in their Women’s Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham today. We’re so proud of you! C.’

Alongside the caption, Kate posted a photo of herself posing with players Megan Jones, Ellie Kildunne and Jess Breach.

In the snap, Ellie and Jess are wearing white cowboy hats with an image of the team’s emblem – a red rose – on the front.

Meanwhile, mother-of-three Kate wears a red stetson, decorated with an image of a tiara.

The official Red Roses Instagram account responded, writing: ‘Thank you for your support!’

Other social media users also took to the comments section to share their thoughts, with one writing: ‘Brilliant picture…Good luck England.’

Another added: ‘The Princess looking so cute with that hat.’

And a further royal watcher said: ‘Love the hat always willing to be full of fun and join in what a fabulous lady you are we love you Catherine the whole country always with you around you and supports you you will make a fabulous queen and you will be ours.’

‘Sooooooo much good luck and skill,’ wrote another. ‘Canada are a force to be reckoned with but I’m sure you’ll battle through and win it on home ground!’

Meanwhile, another royal watcher simply added: ‘Good luck to all the players.’

Kate’s message came after King Charles sent his own well wishes to the team.

A statement he released earlier today said: ‘My wife and I send our warmest good wishes to both the England Red Roses and Canada Women’s Rugby Team as you prepare for your World Cup final.

‘What a remarkable achievement for both teams to have reached this pinnacle of the sport. I know that supporters on both sides of the Atlantic will be cheering with equal and tremendous pride.

‘May the best team win, and may you both play with the spirit of sportsmanship, determination and true grit that makes rugby such a wonderful game to watch. Whatever the result, you have already done your countries proud. Good luck to you all. Charles R.’

Kate’s message comes after she and Prince William visited Southport on Tuesday.

The royal couple went to the town in order to show their continued support to the families of the young girls killed in the Southport attack.

Elsie Dot Stancombe, Alice da Silva Aguiar and Bebe King were killed while attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in June 2024.

They were attacked by Axel Rudakubana, 19, who also injured eight other children.
