SPIRITED STYLE (1.50 Newmarket, nap)
Charlie Appleby lowers the sights of this Sea The Stars filly after she found Group 1 company a bit too much last time. She didn’t get much luck in that German contest and William Buick looked after her so it shouldn’t have left much of a mark. She earned her crack at that race thanks to an impressive win on the July course here. That was her first crack at this 1m4f trip and she saw it out strongly to take a Listed prize. The ground was soft that day but she handled quicker conditions with no problem when winning her maiden at Haydock in May. Appleby has given her a little break since her Germany trip and she comes here nice and fresh with improvement to come. He’s ridden by William Buick and I really fancy a couple of his other rides at HQ today.
TOULEEN (2.25 Newmarket, nb)
Looks a star in the making for trainer Owen Burrows. She won on debut at Newbury before taking another step forward when striking at Leicester last time out. This is a hike in class but she’s got a proper engine and looks hard to beat.
CAJOLE (1.15 Newmarket, treble)
She has been running well in hot races for the Gosdens including fourth in a Sandown Group 3. She didn’t relish the sticky ground and will be much happier in these conditions.
KLASSLEADER (5.10 Haydock, Lucky 15)
There was a lot to like about his win at Ffos Las. This longer distance should suit on handicap debut for William Haggas and there’s more to come.
