The same rampaging predator killed and scalped a woman pensioner in an attack on a sports field near a nursery school close to the centre of Russian city Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The woman, 84, was rushed to intensive care but could not be saved.
The bear also staged a terrifying attack on a boy, 12, as he fled from the bear on Okeanskaya Street near a sports centre.
The animal chased him and lunged at his backpack.
The boy fell suffering temple and knee wounds but knew to play dead, which saved his life.
He bravely lay motionless where he fell despite the pain and fear.
