RYDER CUP fans can enjoy FREE food and drink this week – but there is a catch.
Around 50,000 supporters each day will descend on Bethpage Black as the USA host Europe in the 45th edition of golf’s greatest event.
And they will be able to help themselves to as much food and drink as they want throughout their trip.
But, in effect, they have already paid for them.
That is because the tickets for the Ryder Cup started at a staggering $750 (£555).
So while many criticised the PGA of America for the steep prices, the mammoth fee does include unlimited trips to the catering tents at Bethpage.
Fans are permitted to pick up one hot or cold “food entree” – such as burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches – one snack item – such as crisps or cookies – and one soft drink on any one visit to the vendors.
However, alcohol is not included.
And fans must stump up big money for beers, wines and spirits.
A 16oz (473ml) Michelob Ultra beer, around 100ml less than a UK imperial pint, costs $15 (£11.10) – the same price as Bud Light, while Premium Beer is $16 (£11.84).

The Ryder Cup is back THIS WEEK as Team Europe hope to defend their crown on American soil
Luke Donald‘s team has travelled to New York ahead of the big start on Friday.
Europe has dominated the prestigious competition in the 21st century, winning eight of the 11 meetings since 2002.
But only two of those wins have come in the United States, with Team USA winning both the 2021 and 2016 competitions.
In fact, Team Europe has only won one of the four Ryder Cups held in the US – 2012 – since their win there in 2004 and Team USA enter as the odds-on bookies’ favourites.

By comparison, a standard 16oz US pint would usually cost around $8 (£5.92) in Manhattan.
But there is also a 25oz (740ml) Michelob Ultra at $18 (£13.32) and a 19.2oz (567ml) Premium for $19 (£14.06) – 19.2oz is a UK pint.
An alcohol-free Michelob Ultra Zero is $12 (£8.88) for 12oz (355ml).
As for the wine, $14 (£10.36) will get a chardonnay – with a glass of Moet & Chandon Brut bubbly is $22 (£16.28).
A variety of cocktails – bizarrely not including a Long Island Iced Tea – are also available for either $17.50 (£12.95) or $19.50 (£14.43).
All prices will then be subject to sales taxes of around 8 per cent – plus the unwritten law of expected tips.
