Big questions
ONCE again, Nigel Farage is making the running on immigration.
Voters sick of our broken migration system will like much of what the Reform leader unveiled yesterday.
He is right to point out the shocking cost to taxpayers of countless recently arrived foreign nationals — many of whom don’t work — becoming eligible to access more state services.
A plan to pay benefits only to UK citizens is likely to prove popular.
Scrapping the system of indefinite leave to remain could also slash the welfare bill and help to drive Brits back to work.
But there are some unanswered questions over whether Reform can actually deliver.

If the Government machine can’t cope with a backlog of fewer than 100,000 asylum-seeker claims, how would it expel hundreds of thousands of migrants who fail Reform’s tougher new tests?
How will Farage and his team manage falling birth rates and wean some employers off their addiction to cheap foreign labour?
There is time for his party to work out a detailed response.
In the meantime, the Government needs to wake itself up to the issues Reform is highlighting.
The country can’t afford for Labour to sit back and do nothing as the bills pile up.
UN’s shame
AMID the row over Britain’s recognition of Palestine is the question: where is the United Nations?
The useless UN — to be addressed by Donald Trump today — has utterly failed in the Middle East.
Its naked bias against Israel has been hugely counterproductive to peace.
Even in the hours after the October 7 attacks when Hamas murdered more than 1,200 innocents, Secretary General Antonio Guterres appeared to blame the Jewish state of Israel for its own terrible losses.
Credulous staff on the ground in Gaza have also allowed themselves to be repeatedly conned by the terrorists.
Far from bringing desperately needed solutions, the UN has become part of the problem.
Lib dumb
WHAT is the point of Ed Davey?
His oh-so-carefully contrived buffoon act wore off months ago.
When the country is braced for war, terrorism and financial collapse, the last thing voters need is a grinning oaf prancing around at his party conference with a marching band and sticking drumsticks up his nose.
Worse, his policies are deeply unserious, too.
Davey has no clue how to fix the country’s finances. He has no plan to stop the boats.
He’s a walking wasted vote.
