The Blues arrive in Lincolnshire without a win in their last three matches across all competitions. A draw against Brentford was followed by a Champions League defeat away to Bayern Munich and a dispiriting 3–1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off inside five minutes, while questions were also raised over Enzo Maresca’s decision to withdraw both Pedro Neto and Estevao.
Injury to Cole Palmer only compounded Chelsea’s problems.
Nevertheless, the Londoners still boast the attacking depth to rotate with confidence, and they’ll be eager to get back on track in a competition they last won in 2015.
But Michael Skubala’s Lincoln side won’t be pushovers. The Imps have made a superb start to the League One campaign, suffering just one defeat in nine and collecting 18 points to sit third in the table.
They’ve also been prolific at home – no side has scored more goals on their own patch in League One this season – and they arrive off the back of a convincing 3–1 win over promotion favourites Luton Town.

The Imps are League One’s top home scorers this season and come into the tie full of confidence after putting three past promotion hopefuls Luton Town at the weekend, racking up 15 shots in the process.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are likely to rotate heavily, with this being their fourth game in ten days – a demanding run that has seen them concede seven goals, five of which came before half-time.
With a busy schedule ahead including fixtures against Brighton, Benfica and Liverpool – manager Enzo Maresca may have one eye on what’s to come, opening the door for the fresher hosts to make a fast start against goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who looked unconvincing at Old Trafford.
