SOCIAL media can be a brutal place full of bullies and harsh trolls.
Unfortunately one woman who recently fell victim to mean – and faceless – trolls is US-based mum LayLay.
Like millions of fellow beauty buffs, the dark-haired mother took to TikTok to proudly show off her ”glass skin” – the dewy, mirror-like complexion that’s popularised thanks to Korean beauty.
The exceptionally smooth, clear and radiant skin, with an almost translucent appearance resembles – you guessed it – glass.
And while millions are on the lookout for ways to achieve this look, LayLay has already succeeded, sharing the results online.
The fashion lover, who is all about ”grunge glam” and ”bold eyes”, hasn’t revealed the routine that’s helped her achieve the flawless complexion.
However, despite rocking a skin that would leave billions green with envy, LayLay’s also been mocked over her appearance – and it appears that many have forgotten how to be kind.
In a viral video that’s racked up close to 5million views, LayLay was simply sharing a TJ Maxx haul when an army of mean trolls ridiculed the mum.
Although LayLay (@witchy.lashes) hasn’t shared whether she’s had work done to her face, thousands of meanies said she ‘‘better have sued’’ her injector for the ‘’illegal’’ look.
As many wondered if she had had ”a bad reaction”, other trolls reckoned she got ”the injections at TJ Maxx as well”.
Meanwhile, one person was convinced her face was ”about to blow up” – as more than 6,000 other trolls gave the comment a like.
But as more than 9,200 meanies flooded to comments to share their unnecessary and unsolicited opinion, some viewers reminded of a simple message – to be kind.
”Guys be nice. She obviously doesn’t see what we see. She seems sweet. Be kind,” a viewer said.
Someone else chimed in: ”Mum said if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything……… I hope you’re ok. That’s all.”
A third admitted: ”I was prone to say something not very charming, till I heard her talk.
”She sounds so nice and polite! I disregarded my comment!”
”Don’t pay attention to the mean comments they are so rude,” a kind viewer told LayLay.
What exactly IS K-beauty?
K-Beauty describes skincare products created with a Korean beauty philosophy in mind, according to Healthline.
A standard Korean skincare routine focuses on prevention and protection to keep the natural complexion thriving.
The number of steps in daily beauty routines can vary but 10 is the most common.
From cleansers, toners, and serums, to moisturizers, K-beauty avoids the use of harsh ingredients that can damage the skin.
Glass skin is commonly used in Korean beauty to describe an appearance that’s “smooth, clear, and intensely hydrated.”
How to achieve glass skin on a budget
According to skin expert Elizabeth Japal from The Derma Lab, the first step is a clean, even base for that signature reflective finish, which your go-to cleanser should be able to do the job for.
Then, you need to add thin layers of hydration, which the expert says is key to creating the glass-like effect.
She recommends swapping out heavy creams for your serums and any lightweight gel moisturisers you have knocking about.
“Look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid and panthenol; they bind water to the skin and leave it plump, smooth and light-catching,” Elizabeth told Cult Beauty
She also urged glass skin-hunters to practise consistency.
“The biggest mistake people make is switching up their skincare too often,” she said.
“Consistency is key.
“Choose a routine that focuses on hydration, barrier support and gentle exfoliation.
“Stick with it and your skin will reward you.”
