Dad spends £40 on 40 bags of chocolate after finding long-dated packs perfect for Xmas at popular supermarket

A SAVVY father managed to stock up on 40 bags of chocolate for just £40 after finding some long-dated packs at a popular supermarket.

He has stocked up perfectly in time for the lead up to Christmas.

The dad shared his hefty shop at Sainsbury’s to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook.

He wrote: “Got 40 of these at sainsburys 97p nectar card price.

“Bargain long dates until november next year.

“Putting most away for over christmas.”

Included in the deal is Cadbury’s Golden Caramel Chocolate Buttons, Twirl Bites, and their White Chocolate Buttons also scanning for under £1.

Other customers were excited by the find, hundreds of comments, reactions and likes.

One parent how a deal like this is really life-saving for some: “When people ask why do you need that much of something it’s usually to save money!

“Our child has an eating disorder and chocolate buttons are one of his safe foods right now, so it will save us a fortune.

“We have to do the same with coke zero offers.”

Another was amazed by the amount of chocolate purchased: “Jesus £40 on chocolate is madness.

“I’d eat them all in a week that’s why.”

A third added: “I got a few of these too, they go in the present cupboard and I give them out as treats with beauty products as a nice pick me up.

“I save some for Christmas too.”

Sainsbury’s has been seen slashing dozens of its other Cadbury chocolates to just 97p from their original price of £1.95.

And popular tubs have also been placed at half price.

Tubs of Heroes and Roses went down from £7 to £4.50 at the popular supermarket chain.

The deal didn’t just apply to the traditional Christmas tubs, as a large box of Milk Tray halved from £11 to £5.50

And the price of large 90g bars of Cadbury Dairy Milk also dropped, from £2.20 to just £1.50.

These discounted prices have only been available to Nectar account holders, so you’ll need to sign up for the loyalty scheme if you are not already a member.

It’s free to sign up and you can then collect points on shopping and petrol bought at Sainsbury’s, which can then be turned into money off spending.

They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
