A former NHS doctor has been criticised for sharing how much GPs really earn while working part time in the UK.

Dr Harry Musson, who helps international medical graduates become doctors in the US, has revealed how much he took home while working three days a week as a GP.

Clarifying how this pay cheque was from earlier in the year when he worked as a salaried GP in Britain, he explained: ‘Most GPs in the UK work part time.’

Showing the payslip on the screen, he revealed the gross salary for a part-time GP was £6,000-a-month.

However, with deductions, including income tax, national insurance and other deductibles, the wage from April this year amounts to £3,603.64.

The average wage for a GP as of 2025/2026, ranges from £76,038 until £114,743

Despite, the doctors transparency not all the viewers were pleased to learn how much the former GP earned for half-a-week’s worth of work.

‘I work 80 hours a week and I don’t earn this. I didn’t realise how much doctors earn and sorry totally lost any support I may have had left,’ one critical watcher wrote.

‘I started at 9am today and just finished at 1.30am. I’d be so happy on this for only three days.

‘I think GPs need a reality check as to what normal people are on and how hard they also work.’

A second quipped: ‘For writing prescriptions and preventing access to specialists? Seems generous.’

‘And NHS people complain about low pay haha,’ one said, while another chimed in: ‘All that money you’d think GPs would be working yet you can never see one.’

However, others in the comment section were quick to defend the doctor as well as his transparency about his former paypacket.

‘People always get angry about what you get but don’t want to do what you had to do to get it,’ a viewer penned.

‘Three days a week as a GP = 40 hours of work,’ another wrote.

‘Work that is quite literally life saving. Your salary has to reflect this. So no, £3600 a month isn’t too much at all. I hope GPs get paid even more.’
