The Halloween ornament that’s left spooky fans perplexed – so do you think it’s a sad ghost or something else entirely?

THEY’RE a Halloween decoration staple.

But one woman who splashed out on a cute ghost ornament from Home Bargains for the spooky holiday has left the Internet divided after spotting a confusing detail.

A ceramic ghost decoration that appears to be sad or holding a pumpkin.

Broghan took to TikTok to ask other people whether they thought it was a ghost holding a pumpkin bucket, with a black downward line forming the handle.

Or if it was a “sad ghost” holding a pumpkin.

“Please help settle a household debate,” she wrote over the top of the TikTok.

“Is this a sad ghost holding a pumpkin?

“Or is it a ghost holding a pumpkin bucket?”

“The more you look, the more confusing it gets!” she added.

The comments section was immediately flooded with people having their say, with one insisting: “Ghost holding bucket”.

“Yes! Thank you!” Broghan replied.

“But why is it not using the handle?” another asked.

“Not a clue but I personally think it’s far too low down to be a mouth,” someone else replied.

Halloween but make it pink

“And I suppose the same reason some people hold cups by the cup even when it has a handle.

“It’s a strong independent ghost!”

“Ghost holding a pumpkin bucket but now I can’t unsee the sad ghost!” another laughed.

“Sad ghost asking for candy,” someone else insisted.

As another admitted: “Oh, I thought it was a sad face.

“That’s why I didn’t buy it!”

Tacky Halloween decorations

Interiors expert Miriam Gomez revealed the seven mistakes that are making your Halloween decorations look tacky.

  • Too much orange and black can make your home look like a Halloween shop.
  • Plastic tombstones come across as cartoonish rather than spooky.
  • Too many lights can be overwhelming, mix in some candles instead.
  • Fake materials and too much glitter can make your house look cheap.
  • Loud repetitive sounds can be incredibly annoying for you and your neighbours.
  • Inflatable garden decor look tacky and can float into your neighbour’s garden.
  • Not embracing classic elements such as carved pumpkins.

“It’s definitely meant to be a bucket and the ghost is holding it up for sweets to go in when trick or treating,” someone else wrote.

“If the handle was a mouth it would be smaller to match with the eyes and it’s also way too far down to be the mouth.

“Also it’s clearly meant to be a cute ghost decoration with the bow and stuff so I don’t know why they’d make it have a giant sad face!”

“I went with sad ghost because the handle didn’t connect to the pumpkin…now I see that I’ve give this way too much thought…” another sighed.

Others insisted Broghan needed to take it upon herself to “fix” the ornament.

“Holding a bucket but first look I thought it was sad,” one wrote.

“Draw a mouth on!”

“Definitely holding a bucket, I think you should put a little smile on it with a sharpie,” another insisted.

Broghan then returned to TikTok to share the altered ornament, which now has a small smile underneath the eyes.

“We fixed her!” she wrote.

But not everyone was convinced by the addition, as one questioned: “You added a nose?”

“It was supposed to be a smile!” Broghan laughed.
