HEADING into the doors of the Morrisons Christmas showcase, I could hardly contain my excitement.
While it may only be September, I was invited to try all the goodies being rolled across the supermarket ahead of the festive season.
Morrisons festive nosh is expected to land in its 497 stores over the coming weeks to give shoppers a chance to get ready for the big day.
A total of 640 items will land on shelves this Yuletide, and a whopping 340 products have never been seen in store before.
Prices for the goods have not yet been finalised.
With the rain pouring down outside, I was in search of some comforting festive grub to help soften the blow of summer being truly over.
This naturally led me to the mince pies, and I was eager to see what was on offer.
Morrisons has rolled out a new “Best Signature Collection” mince pie, featuring vine fruits, apple, brandy and spices encased in a classic shortcrust pastry.
The supermarket’s latest take on the classic British treat is superb.
It is generously packed with the fruity filling, and the pastry is the perfect crumbly texture.
Better yet, it is a hefty size and one of the biggest I have seen on the market in a while.
After one bite, I was sold and it easily knocked mince pies I have tried last Christmas from upmarket grocers such as Waitrose and M&S out of the park.
If you are like me, and have to eat two or sometimes three supermarket mince pies to get your fix, I promise just one of these Morrisons pies will be enough to satisfy your craving.
The treat will be sold as part of the chain’s Best Signature Collection, which is expected to be more pricey than its standard range.
Sticking with the sweet treats, Morrisons Chocolate Belgian Chocolate & Praline Star was another standout.
This dessert is a Belgian chocolate ganache filled with hazelnut praline on rich syrup-soaked chocolate sponge, with a crisp hazelnut praline and wafer base.
It is a lazy cook’s dream, bringing the wow factor to any Christmas table without any effort.
And for those of us on the hunt for a less chocolatey dessert, why not try its Best Signature Collection Winter Berry Topped Baked Cheesecake.
This is a rich and creamy basque-style baked cheesecake topped with strawberry jam and a mix of cranberries, blackberries and redcurrants.
The main event
Everything about Morrisons festive range screams having a bougie Christmas with little effort.
Meat lovers, on the hunt to elevate their turkey this year will undoubtedly be wowed by its take on the festive bird.
This year, shoppers can get their hands on its Best Signature Collection Giant Double Stuffed Whole Turkey topped with Smoked Bacon.
It is a free-range Norfolk Bronze Turkey, generously filled with outdoor bred pork, sage & red onion stuffing and outdoor bred pork, cranberry & chestnut stuffing.
This is also topped with 10 rashers of dry-cured smoked streaky bacon and finished with two chicken stock basting butters and a bouquet garni for a rich, festive centrepiece.
And if that is not enough, shoppers can tuck into a Christmas Tree Bone Steak.
This is a thick cut 14-Day matured t-bone steak with a chimichurri rub and rosemary & thyme Butter.
It’s the perfect indulgent Boxing Day meal for those who are growing bored of making a leftover turkey curry.
How to save money on Christmas shopping
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping.
Limit the amount of presents – buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb.
Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you’re not having to buy multiple presents.
Plan ahead – if you’ve got the stamina and budget, it’s worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.
Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.
Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.
Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.
Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.
They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
