CHANCELLOR Rachel Reeves has been warned not to hit business with further costs at the Budget, after a jobs slowdown.
A fall of 8,000 payrolled workers to 30.3million was recorded last month, coupled with a 10,000 drop in vacancies in the three months to August.
British Retail Consortium boss Helen Dickinson called on the Chancellor to help.
Reeves was hoping for better news from inflation figures out today.
She told The Sun: “I am adamant that there is more Government must do — and can do — to tackle the cost of living.
“I have said that the Budget later this year must take action to reduce inflation.

“That is why last week I ordered every government department in Whitehall to find ways to keep costs down and – where possible – lower them.
“This isn’t about grand gestures or complicated economics.
“It’s about rewarding those who pay their way.”
The Chancellor yesterday wore a Google-branded hard hat and hi-vis jacket on a visit to Waltham Cross, Herts, yesterday.
It will benefit from a £5billion investment by Google owner Alphabet in British AI sites.
It is part of a transatlantic pact that will see US tech firms pour £31billion into the UK.
