M25 and M20 closed in same area over horror crash and ‘overrunning roadworks’ as rush hour drivers face long delays

TWO major motorways have been forced to shut in the same area after a horror smash and “overrunning roadworks”.

Thousands of commuters travelling on the M20 and M25 face lengthy delays following the closures across Kent this morning.

The M25 is closed clockwise between Junction 3, for the M20, and Junction 4, for Bromley, due to a collision.

Emergency crews, including Kent Police, were scrambled to the crash at around 5.40am.

Meanwhile, scheduled roadworks on the M20 were not completed by the expected 6am deadline.

It means the busy route remains closed eastbound between Junction 7, for Maidstone, and Junction 8, for Hollingbourne.

Posting updates this morning, National Highways confirmed diversions were in place for both closures.

On its website, it said: “The M25 in Kent is closed clockwise between J3 (M20, Swanley) and J4 (Orpington) due to a collision.

“Emergency Services are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

“The overnight roadworks on the M20 eastbound between J7 and J8 will not be completed by it’s scheduled finish time of 06:00.

“The road is closed between J7 and J8.”
