EFL managers do a Tuchel and Conte as Will Still appears to take issue with handshake after fierce south coast derby

EFL managers Will Still and John Mousinho did their best Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte impression with a frosty post-match handshake.

The pair met for the first time as Southampton and Portsmouth drew 0-0 in the first South Coast derby for six years.

It was a fierce clash and one that got off in a provocative way, as Saints fans unfurled a cheeky tifo of James Beattie celebrating a goal against Portsmouth in 2003.

So it was perhaps no surprise that the managers felt the tension too with a coming together at the final whistle.

Pompey boss Mousinho walked over to his opposite number and the pair shook hands, with Mousinho firmly gripping Still’s hand.

Still looked baffled as Mousinho held onto his hand for longer than necessary, and turned to face the Portsmouth manager.

They exchanged a quizzical look with Still unleashing an outburst, appearing to question Mousinho’s actions.

The incident was reminiscent of Tuchel and Conte refusing to let each other’s hands go at the end of a draw between Chelsea and Tottenham in August 2022.

Fans reacted to the awkward moment with one saying: “Bros celebrating a draw. Embarrassing.”

Another added: “Big John squeezed his hand and didn’t let go 😂”
