Henry Cavill injured while training for Highlander movie remake… forcing filming to be pushed back to 2026

Henry Cavill suffered an injury that is shutting down the remake of the movie Highlander for the remainder of the year.

The 42-year-old star suffered the injury while training for the role, sources told Deadline on Thursday.

Further details of exactly what that injury is have not been forthcoming but it appears serious enough to delay filming until 2026.

The movie is a remake of the 1986 hit film that starred Christopher Lambert and the late Sean Connery.

The Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Cavill as well as Amazon MGM Studios.

In the original Highlander, Christopher Lambert played Connor MacLeod, a 16th century Scottish warrior who discovers he is immortal unless his head is severed.

He gets initiated into the secret world of immortals by the virtuoso swordsman Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, memorably portrayed by Sean Connery.

The film went on to spawn a hugely successful TV series of the same name.

British star Cavill spoke about reprising the role of MacLeod in the reboot at CinemaCon in April 2024.

He revealed that he was doing extra preparation for the production and referenced his Netflix show The Witcher: ‘If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.’

Russell Crowe co-stars in the role originated by Connery and the remake is being directed by Chad Stahelski, who helmed all the John Wick movies.

It’s been a busy time for Cavill, 42, who welcomed his first child with girlfriend Natalie Viscuso back in January.

He has several productions in the works including In the Grey for Guy Ritchie and a third instalment of Enola Holmes 3 with Millie Bobby Brown.

He recently wrapped filming on another Amazon MGM Studios movie Voltron, a live action film based on the 1980s animated series.
