Aston Villa yet to turn up this season but favourable fixtures encourage patience among Dream Team gaffers

DREAM TEAM managers are still waiting for Aston Villa to turn up this season.

Unai Emery’s side drew 0-0 with Newcastle in their opening game of the campaign and have since lost to Brentford and Crystal Palace.

With just one point to show for their efforts in August, the Villains are currently 19th in the Premier League table.

What’s most concerning is the fact they are the only top flight team yet to score in 2025/26.

Consequently, the likes of Ollie Watkins (£5.2m) and Morgan Rogers (£5.2m) have endured false starts in the world of Dream Team.

Both the England internationals amassed 300+ points last season but have just eight points each after three Gameweeks this term.

And Youri Tielemans (£4.7m), who was also among the game’s top performers in 2024/25, hasn’t fared much better — he’s on nine points.

Many Dream Team bosses have already sought replacements for Villa’s misfiring assets; an understandable response.

Those who have stuck by the likes of Watkins and Rogers have a difficult decision to make ahead of Gameweek 4.

The Stats Centre paints a damning picture of Villa’s performances so far but the fixture list encourages patience.

Emery’s troops are among the select group of eight teams with SIX fixtures to fulfil across the next three Gameweeks.

Not only will they have the joint highest number of point-scoring opportunities from now until the October international break, their opponents seem relatively favourable on paper.

ASTON VILLA FIXTURES UNTIL OCTOBER INTERNATIONAL BREAK

  • Everton (a)
  • Brentford (a)
  • Sunderland (a)
  • Bologna (h)
  • Fulham (h)
  • Feyenoord (a)
  • Burnley (h)

All things considered, that’s an inviting set.

This Saturday’s trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium will be a test as Jack Grealish (£3.4m), Iliman Ndiaye (£3.9m) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£3m) have the Toffees playing some nice football but Villa’s attack-minded players should be hopeful.

David Moyes’s side were solid at the back last season but only Burnley conceded more shots in the top flight throughout August.

Furthermore, the Clarets and Wolves are the only teams to allow their opponents more xG than Everton this season.

Emery may opt to rotate against the Bees in the Carabao Cup but if he whips his troops into shape then the next four Gameweeks could be very profitable.

The Europa League was a rich source of returns last season despite Manchester United and Tottenham’s obvious weaknesses — even at half capacity Villa could collect their fair share of points.

Watkins and friends are running out of credit but there’s enough evidence to suggest they deserve a little more time.

That being said, a pair of disappointing showings in Gameweek 4 would perhaps be the final straw for even the most patient gaffers.
