A BRIDE has been slammed after chopping up her mum’s wedding dress to wear on her own big day.
Soli explained that she was “absolutely obsessed” with the “detail and structure” in the lace detail dress her mother had sported for her wedding.
The gown featured delicate, sheer fabric on the bodice, straps and a full skirt.
But for her own wedding, Soli was “set on making it strapless”.
So, she took it to a local tailor, and worked alongside her to make it a dream dress to wear as her “reception after party look”.
In a video on her Instagram page, she showed how the dress had been transformed – with the biggest change taking place on the skirt.

Instead of the full skirt all the way round, it had been given a high low hem – so a miniskirt at the front with longer material at the back and on the sides.
“I was absolutely obsessed with how it came out,” Soli added in the Instagram Reel.
She also showed herself sporting the dress at the wedding, as she sat in front of a picture of her mum in the same gown.
“Time to share my last and final wedding look, my second reception look….” she captioned her video.
“My mum’s wedding dress!!!!! The most special!”
And while Soli was clearly thrilled with the way the dress transformation had turned out, not everyone agreed.
In fact, the comments section was almost immediately filled with angry people taking aim at Soli for “destroying” her mum’s “gorgeous” dress.
“I don’t mind the strapless but omg I will mourn that gorgeous skirt,” one wrote.
“This is one of the saddest ones I’ve seen yet,” another sighed.
“I don’t necessarily dislike yours but the original was one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen.”
“The original was insanely beautiful and so ahead of its time,” a third commented.
“The strapless – yes. But WHAT DID YOU DO TO THAT BEAUTIFUL SHAPE?” someone else yelled.
How to pick the perfect wedding dress

Wedding season is in full swing, but when it comes to picking your perfect dress, most new brides-to-be probably feel a bit clueless.
As someone who’s tying the knot in August 2024, Josie Griffiths, deputy digital Fabulous editor and bride-to-be, has shared her top tips…
- Give yourself time – unless you’re a sample size, dresses can take months to even arrive. Don’t stress yourself out by looking too late, in my opinion dress shopping should be the second thing on your list, right after finding a venue.
- Visit multiple shops – you don’t want to be buying on your first visit.
- But not too many – like a f***boy who can’t stop swiping on Tinder, having too much choice isn’t going to help you find The One.
- Take people with you – women who will be honest but also hype you up, unlike the mean relatives on Say Yes To The Dress, and ideally people from different areas of your life who won’t automatically say the same thing. I shopped with my mum and two best friends, who didn’t know each other and had different styles.
- Think it over – I returned to the shop before making my final decision on the dress I chose, re-trying it with my second favourite to make sure I was certain. It’s an expensive purchase, and you can’t send it back like you might your next Asos order, so take time to mull it over.
“OMG, it looks like a forever 21 style now. High school dance.”
“I’m sorry to say that, but you destroyed an iconic gorgeous, unique dress,” another wrote.
“Straight to f**king JAIL!” someone else shouted.
“I have never seen a wedding dress like this is my life and it was so gorgeous in its original design!”
“I never skip one of these and I’m always so sad at the crimes committed against such gorgeous dresses,” another raged.
“The bodice looks lovely but the skirt, girl, the skirt was a work of art.”
