Conlan gives brutally honest prediction
Mick Conlan reckons he has plenty left in the tank as he looks to hit top gear in Dublin.
Conlan, 33, admits he is a vintage model at this stage of his career, with a few miles on the clock.
But he is adamant he can still pull clear of Jack Bateson when they collide in Dublin tomorrow night en route to what would be a third world title shot.
The Belfast featherweight picked Bateson as an opponent for this 3Arena clash and reckons the Englishman could push him to the limit.
Asked if he can pull out his first stoppage win for nearly three years, he said: “I can – I know I can. I believe I will, but I’m prepared for a hard ten rounds, simple as that.
“I didn’t choose Jack becuase of anything to do with punch power. Anybody who wears a pair of 8oz gloves and gets hit with a pair of 8oz gloves can be hurt, and it doesn’t matter who you are.
“It’s nothing to do with records or anything like that. I’ve got someone who’s hungry and wants to test me. He wants to get to the top. And I need to be tested.
“I can’t go in against somebody I’m gonna just win against. For opponents like that I probably take my foot off the gas. Whereas this time, I’ve drove the car into a wall basically, going that fast. I’ve been pushing so hard in this camp and I’m very, very excited for it.”
