THE ASTRONOMICAL prices to rent and land on the property ladder have forced many to find alternatives.
But while some give up the city life to live in a van or save thousands by living on a narrowboat, one man has revealed he lives in the woods.

The man, only known as TikToker Brit Prepper, explained his rent was too high – and eventually, he ended up being homeless.
However, instead of reaching out to the council for help, the man decided to take a rather drastic approach – and moved into the woods.
Here, he recently showed in a video online, he lives in a ”hot tent” totally for free and uses solar power to generate electricity.
Sharing a bit more about his ”off-grid” lifestyle, Brit Prepper said that those who end up in a similar position will be ”better off” following his footsteps.
”If you find yourself homeless in the UK, they don’t look after you very well.
”So you’re better off doing what I did and find yourself a secluded spot like this,” said the TikToker who’s based in Ribble Valley
Inside the tent, the man has placed wooden pallets which he presumably sleeps on.
Meanwhile, to feed himself, Brit Pepper uses a portable stove, as well as a solar shower attached to the trees outside.
”Obviously, not much good in the winter. But what you can do is heat up the water in the kettle [with the portable stove], put it in there and have a nice little shower.”
Outside the ”hot tent”, which comes with decent amount of storage space, Brit Pepper has also hung portable solar panels.
”On a sunny day, you get a good charge out of it.”
Despite some social media users being concerned, Brit Pepper reassured everyone he’ll ”survive” – even during harsh weather, as he’s ”done several winters”.
”I normally head somewhere more milder and just wrap up warm in extra layers and keep a fire going.”
In the UK, it is legal to camp on private land with permission and on some public land, particularly in Scotland, where “wild camping” rules apply.
What to do if you’re made homeless
In England, your council must help if you’re legally homeless or will become homeless within the next 8 weeks.
You may be legally homeless if:
- you’ve no legal right to live in accommodation anywhere in the world
- you cannot get into your home, for example your landlord has locked you out
- it’s not reasonable to stay in your home, for example you’re at risk of violence or abuse
- you’re forced to live apart from your family or people you normally live with because there’s no suitable accommodation for you
- you’re living in very poor conditions such as overcrowding
There are different types of support your council could offer you. For example, they may offer you advice, emergency housing, support to find longer-term housing or help so you can stay in your home.

The clip, posted under the username @britprepper, has taken the internet by storm, racking up more than 450k views in just one day.
Hundreds were left intrigued by the off-grid lifestyle, as they flooded to comments with their questions and thoughts.
One said: ”Storage unit – £50 a month rent price. Locked and spacious. Just a thought.”
Another chimed in: ”this never should happen in the UK In 2025. I am sending you so much love.”
”Save a fortune doing that mate,” a third commented.
”Good set up mate,” someone else was impressed.
