Supermarket giant slashes price of Quality Street tubs to just £2.95 – perfect for stocking up for Christmas

A SUPERMARKET giant has slashed the price of Quality Street tubs to £2.95.

Tesco has slashed the price of the iconic tubs down to just a few quid to give shoppers a chance to stock up ahead of Christmas.

The bargain offer is only available to Clubcard holders otherwise you have to pay £7 for a tub.

It is free to sign up to Tesco’s loyalty scheme, which lets shoppers collect points for money off vouchers as well as exclusive discounts.

The offer was shared in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, with many savvy shoppers praising the find.

One shopper joked there would be “no chance” the chocolates would remain unopened until Christmas.

And another said they “needed” to pick a tub up.

The tubs on offer on Tesco weigh 600g, making them a rare find as maker Nestle has lowered the size of the tubs to 550g.

The new purple tubs have approximately 57 chocolates down from 63.

A Nestlé spokesperson has this to say last week: “Each year we introduce a new Quality Street range with formats, sizes, weights and RRPs based on a range of factors including the cost of manufacturing, ingredients and transport and the preferences of our customers and consumers.”

The larger size is completely sold on Tesco’s website so you will likely have to shop this offer in store.

With that in mind, it may be worth ringing up your local branch ahead of time to see if they are running the deal.

You can buy the new 550g tubs for £4.95 at Tesco with a Clubcard or otherwise non loyalty card holders can pay £7.

When on the hunt for Christmas chocolate, it is important to shop around to ensure you are not missing out on a better deal elsewhere.

Sainsbury’s is also no longer selling 600g tubs of Quailty Street, but shoppers can pick up a 550g tin for £7.

Asda is selling the new smaller size for £4.68, and Morrisons is also charging £7.

Countdown to Christmas

And it is not the only Christmas chocolate that shoppers have spotted on supermarket shelves in recent weeks.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Winter Mint Crisp is back on shelves, much to delight of shoppers.

The limited edition chocolate bar is a whopping 360g – over three times the weight of a normal one – and costs just £4.50.

Elsewhere, shoppers have been going wild for a 1ft Christmas scanning for £3 at B&Q.

Shoppers have left glowing reviews of the tiny artificial decoration, with one describing it as the “perfect table top Christmas tree”.

Those looking to get their hands on the tree should know it is not available for click and collect.

So you will need to head to one of B&Q’s 300 stores to get your hands on the bargain or order it online.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
