THIS week is No Waste Week and it is a good time to reset, cut excess and still dish up hearty dinners.
Brits chuck away up to £60 of edible food each month, but with some mindful planning and quick-fix recipes, you can feed the family well without binning a thing.
PLAN AHEAD: Take stock of what is in your fridge and cupboards, and plan meals around what needs to be used up first.
When planning your weekly shop, try setting a theme for the week such as Italian or Asian so the same ingredients get used across multiple dishes to avoid waste.
ALL IN ONE: Use up everything that has been leftover from previous meals for fast tray bake meals.
That last chicken breast, a couple of sausages or a handful of veg that is about to go past its best? Chop it all up and put it on one tray, season with garlic and dried herbs and roast in the oven.

Serve with rice or potatoes for a simple all-in-one supper.
VEG FIX: Bendy peppers, broccoli stems and leftover noodles can be fried together for a fast stir-fry. Add soy sauce, garlic and a fried egg for a budget-friendly dinner.
Another option for leftover veg peel or stems is to chop, simmer with stock and blitz into a hearty soup, then freeze into portions. Alternatively, fry leftover veg in a pan, add three eggs and a sprinkle of cheese to make a brilliant frittata.
USE IT ALL: Don’t throw away peelings, meat bones or stale bread, instead save to make future meals. Bones can be simmered on the hob to make a stock for pasta sauces or soups.
Stale bread can be oven roasted to make salad croutons, or toasted and whizzed into breadcrumbs to coat meat or veg for homemade nuggets or veggie kievs.
BAKING WONDER: The Great British Bake Off starts tonight on Channel 4 so why not make some no-waste showstoppers?
Overripe fruit can be used in muffin or flapjack mixes while mashed, overripe bananas can be used in place of egg in many cake recipes.
