Motorists parked on the sand at a popular UK beach could not believe their eyes when they discovered a rising tide had swamped the area – leaving their vehicles partially submerged in the sea.
In hilarious footage captured on video, beachgoers visiting Polzeath, Cornwall on 25 August were left in stitches after being forced to wade into the water to claim their cars.
Locals watched on as visitors who had left their cars parked along the shore came back to carnage.
In one bizarre clip captured by Sam Peters, who was enjoying a day out at the seaside resort village, some cars can be seen stuck in the sand while others were surrounded by crashing waves.
Panicked drivers can be seen attempting to salvage their motors while children danced excitedly around the vehicles and bemused grown-ups posed in front of the site.
Sam, 34, from Worcester, discovered his own 2010 Subaru Outback sinking into the sand and sea, prompting members of the public to help push the motor to safety.
He admitted beachgoers were left ‘panicking’ by the situation, adding: ‘It caused much distress. Many onlookers were surprised and concerned, some tried to help.
Speaking to NeedToKnow, he added: ‘Several cars got caught in the rising tide and became stuck on the beach. The car finally got pushed out by many supporters.’
