British tourist plunges to his death from third-floor flat window at South African coastal resort

A British tourist has died after falling from the window of a third-floor flat at a popular South African coastal resort.

The 68-year-old man, who has not yet been named, plunged from the apartment just after midnight on August 23 in Ramsgate, a picturesque seaside village on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a holidaymaker had toppled from the three-storey window.

Craig Botha, spokesperson for the KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said paramedics arrived to find the man critically injured after the fall.

Advanced Life Support interventions were immediately initiated at the scene.

But while being transported to hospital, his condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite desperate resuscitation attempts by both paramedics and hospital staff, he was later pronounced dead.

Police have since confirmed that an inquest has been opened as investigators piece together the events that led to the fatal plunge.

The KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service expressed its condolences to the man’s family, friends and colleagues.

It is understood he had been drinking shortly before the tragedy.

Ramsgate, known for its sandy beaches and bustling holiday flats, is a popular destination for both South Africans and international tourists.

Daily Mail have approached the Foreign Office for comment.

It comes just weeks after a British tourist was found dead near a swimming pool in Greece, while three people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

The 78-year-old was swimming in her hotel pool in Hersonissos, Crete, on August 3, when she reportedly fell ill and got out of the water.

Minutes later, the woman was found collapsed by a sun-lounger by shocked bathers.

The Brit was given first aid before emergency services arrived on the scene and rushed her to hospital, where she later died.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by negligence, including a 21-year-old lifeguard who was supposed to be on duty at the time, as well as the hotel’s director, 51, and the general manager, 41.

All three suspects were released on bail and police launched an investigation to determine the woman’s cause of death.
