Moment armed police descend on pair of armed robbers who tied up young woman and stole £50k of jewellery

This is the shocking moment armed police were captured descending on a pair of armed robbers who tied up a woman and stole £50k worth of jewellery.

Ints Dombroskis, 45, and Hugo Ignats, 42, were arrested by officers along the A1 following a horrifying robbery in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, on May 30.

CCTV footage captured the two men as they entered PG Jewellery and Collectables, with Dombrovskis seen lifting his mask up and walking towards the shopkeeper with his hand in a black bag, leading her to believe he was holding a gun.

Ignants, who entered the shop with a mask covering his face, turned around and locked the door behind him while wielding a long-handled axe.

He then proceeded to grab the terrified shopkeeper, aged in her 20s, and tie her hands together with duct tape and a bungee cord, before doing the same to her ankles.

Fearing for her life, she recalled being told by Ignants: ‘Don’t move or I will kill you’.

Over the course of a nine minute thieving spree, the two men were captured on camera grabbing watches, rings and necklaces from the display cabinets.

The pair, who stuffed the jewels into both black bags and their pockets, laid the axe out on the floor as they raided the store.

Both Dombroskis and Ignants also stole a mobile phone, bank card and £15 in cash before the quickly fled the scene.

Lincolnshire Police said they were first made aware of the horrific incident when a 999 call was made just before 12.20pm.

Then, shortly after 12.30pm, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called following reports of a car on fire on Cranmore Lane, just a four-minute drive from the jewellers.

Both number plates and charred clothing were discovered inside of the partially burnt-out silver Vauxhall Astra, with fire fighters believing that the vehicle had been deliberately set alight.

Utilising tracking technology, officers were then able to establish that the Astra and a black Honda civic had travelled into the area that day, while the clothes found matched those worn by the offenders.

An urgent manhunt was then launched by officers to locate the two men who were believed to have been travelling in the Honda and likely still in possession of a long-handled axe, alongside other weapons.

Footage showed armed police as they closely followed the car towards Newark before eventually forcing the vehicle to pull over along the busy stretch of A1 road.

Dombrovski was found to be driving the Honda, while Ignats was sat in the rear seat.

Police bodycam footage indicated the sense of urgency as an officer, pointing an armed weapon at the two men, shouted ‘armed police come here’ and demanded that the thieves ‘show me your arms now’.

As rows of vehicles sat in standstill traffic, the officer proceeded to tell the men to get on their knees and place their hands on their head.

While the two men were placed under arrest for the offence of robbery, an officer is shown pulling three gold chains out of Ignants pockets.

Police later discovered two black bags in the car boot containing more stolen goods.

Detective Constable Katie Munroe, the Investigating Officer, described being unable ‘to comprehend how terrified’ the victim must have been during the robbery and praised her for having ‘huge courage’ on the day of the incident.

DC Munroe continued: ‘The investigation moved at a fast pace with information of interest coming in quickly, thankfully. The Intelligence Unit played a significant part in identifying the offender’s movements.

‘The call from the fire fighters was instrumental in joining up more of the dots. The information from the scene gathered by response officers who were first to arrive was crucial.

‘Detectives secured evidence including CCTV and completed searches of the vehicles.

‘The final piece of the jigsaw fell into place when colleagues from armed policing found and arrested the two defendants, safely.’

Sergeant Lee Giles, the Operational Firearms Commander on the day, said: ‘This was a horrendous crime committed against a completely innocent member of our community merely going about her daily work.

‘As soon as my team were aware of this incident we accepted nothing less than getting these offenders in handcuffs.

‘Working with officers from Nottinghamshire Police armed response, we did exactly that on the A1 where these two offenders thought they had escaped with the proceeds of their crime. Not on my watch’
