Worker ‘beats colleague to death and “eats his brain” on first day in job’

A farm worker reportedly beat his colleague to death before eating his brain on his first day on the job.

The brutal killing took place on August 12 at Fazenda Baixinha, a rural property in Ilheus, in the far south of the Brazilian state of Bahia.

According to local reports, a local landowner had offered suspect Luiz Teiceira work helping bring in the harvest.

But for reasons still unknown, he got into a violent argument with fellow labourer Pedro Nascimento dos Santos, 60, and repeatedly struck him on the head with a piece of wood.

The blows to his head were so severe that brain matter was left scattered across the floor.

Witnesses alleged the suspect then picked up some of the matter and ate them.

Local police said they are still in the process of verifying the cannibalism claims, as dogs that were on the farm had also eaten parts of the brain.

Chief of Police André Aragão Lima, told DCM: ‘The attack was so violent that the brain matter was scattered across the floor,’ he stated.

The Civil Police and Military Police have begun searching the area, which is made up of several farms, after the suspect fled into nearby woodland following the brutal act.

They are yet to locate him.

‘Luiz’s arrest has not yet been requested,’ said Lima, who did not officially confirm the reports of cannibalism.

The case has been registered as first-degree murder, and the motive remains under investigation.

The area is at the heart of Brazil’s cocoa bean country, where farms grow the pods used to make chocolate under the shade of taller trees.
