Glenn Reynolds–the blogfather–has as one of his themes “the Corbynization of the Democratic Party.”
Generally, he is referring to the rise of antisemitism, but the same could be said of the rising socialist ideology that is overtaking the late-90s Democrats.
Barack Obama would qualify as a conservative Democrat today, although God forbid any Democrat speak that truth aloud. Obama’s socialist impulses were mainly aimed at implementing an industrial policy and expanding the social insurance state, while the new batch of Democrats are determined to destroy the free market entirely.

Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders helped lead the charge, fighting the bad fight over the past 20 years. But while popular among the party faithful, Bernie was consigned to the fringe by the Establishment, and while Warren made more inroads into the party infrastructure, she really never caught on with the big Establishment-types.

But there is a new Democratic Party, and it is AOC’s, Mamdani’s, Jasmine Crockett’s, and the young Democratic Socialists who are the rising stars. Antisemitic, yes, but also very hostile to all things American. They are the children of Bernie and Elizabeth Warren.

In their view, America is corrupt to the core, and the American ideal must become a Red/Green/Brown coalition. Red for communism, Green for environmental extremism, and Brown for anti-white. Their parents are whites–Bernie and Warren–who hate bourgeois America, and they see the future as a refutation of what they believe is the inherent whiteness of America.

Bernie has traveled the country (in a private jet) selling AOC to his followers, and Elizabeth Warren is proudly proclaiming Mamdani as the future of the Democratic Party.
I’m not quite sure how Mamdani rises much higher than Mayor of New York–Senator, perhaps–because Mamdani birtherism will not be a thing. But perhaps he can be the spiritual leader, even though his not a transgender lesbian. At least he is brown, a socialist, and Muslim.

In one way, it is tempting for Republicans to welcome this leftward lurch on the part of the Democrats. After all, Jeremy Corbyn managed to help a very unpopular Conservative Party maintain power in 2020 by being so left-wing.
On the other hand, Democrats will come to power again someday, and that should scare the bejeezus out of any sane person. Not to mention that it is all well and good to say things like “let New York City burn,” but that is just stupid in the real world. NYC is a great world city, a key driver of our economic success, and New Yorkers are not a bad lot.
Most of them aren’t, anyway.

The Conservative Party got fat and lazy, competing with Corbyn’s Labour Party, and look at where Britain is now. They traded in Jeremy Corbyn for Keir Starmer, who, like Biden, played a moderate until he got into power. Now look at where the country is.
America is stronger and better with competitive elections, and God forbid the Republicans degenerate or stumble and a hard-left Democratic Party seize power.
Unfortunately, only Democrats can save their own party, and they don’t seem capable of doing so. The muckety-mucks are flailing, and all the energy is on the left.
