How do you tell a government is desperate and circling the toilet politically?
Well, if they’ve gotten themselves in an unpopular war, they’re busy scraping teenagers and old men off the street and importing North Koreans to send to the front lines.
If they’re only trying to hold onto power in the midst of a polling collapse, and facing condemnation for miserable decisions at every turn, why…you give the kiddies the vote!
With his party’s popularity tanking, former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz thought that it would be a terrific move before the European Parliamentary elections last spring.
How’d that craven ploy work out for him?
Those darn kids pretty much assured Alternativ for Germany (AfD) their first stunning arrival into real legitimacy.
excellent performance by the German youth in EU elections.

In those same elections in Belgium, where voting was compulsory (!) for teenagers, damned if it didn’t backfire spectacularly, too.

AU REVOIR
Which means, of course, that feeble-minded British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his pack of predatory progressive ministers are going to do the exact same thing in Great Britain for the next election.
In one of the ultimate nanny states on Earth, which is seriously looking at implementing a complete social media ban on 16-year-olds and younger because they are too immature to handle the pressures online…
A possible ban on social media for under-16s in the UK is “on the table”, the technology secretary Peter Kyle has told the BBC.
Speaking on the Today programme, on BBC Radio 4, he said he would “do what it takes” to keep people and in particular children safe online.
…they will now also be given the right to vote during a national general election, ergo determining the direction and future of the country.
U.K. government: ban 15 year olds from social media because they’re not responsible…
U.K. government: give 16 year olds the vote because they’re responsible…

Same-same
The insanity meter is damned near pegged.
Starmer’s brilliant thinkers are coloring it as a ‘seismic change’ which will ‘modernise DEMOCRACY.’
Oh, well – there you go. At least they didn’t say they were saving it. So trite and overused a phrase that no one believes it anymore anyway.
- Modernisation of UK democracy will see 16 and 17 year olds able to vote in next general election
- Voter ID to be extended to include bank cards to help more people exercise their democratic right
- Tougher new rules to guard against foreign political interference and abuse of campaigners
Sixteen year olds will be given the right to vote in all UK elections as part of seismic changes to modernise UK democracy, delivering a key manifesto commitment and helping to restore trust in politics through our Plan for Change.
This will mean young people, who already contribute to society by working, paying taxes and serving in the military, will be given the right to vote on the issues that affect them. This will bring UK-wide elections in line with Scotland and Wales and is a major step towards meeting a manifesto commitment, ushering in the biggest change to UK democracy in a generation.
So teen voters are going to help ‘restore trust in politics,’ are they?
How is that supposed to happen when this is a nakedly political move for all that it’s being enrobed with progressive swaddling terms like empowerment, fairness, and agency? Has not a soul at Labour noticed the cognitive dissonance in progressive nannies still denying these precious now ‘responsible’ children the right to marry, buy cigarettes, quaff a pint, or be a candidate themselves?
…There is also an issue of fairness. Many young people work and contribute taxes, or serve in the military in non-combat roles. And it will bring England and Northern Ireland into line with Scotland and Wales, where those aged 16 and 17 have been able to vote in Holyrood, Senedd and local council elections for some time.
The government’s arguments for electoral change are all about increasing democratic participation, with Starmer saying all young people should have a say in the country’s future. “If you pay in, you should have the opportunity to say how your money should be spent,” he said.
There is also an unspoken belief among many in Labour that the change may benefit the left, given that younger people have historically tended to be more left wing. The Conservatives were certainly not keen on the policy, saying it was “confusing” that the age group would be able to vote “but not stand as candidates, and they will be able to vote but not permitted to buy a lottery ticket, consume alcohol, marry or go to war”.
Labour is also overlooking that these are indeed children, who can be quite contrary, even when showered with blandishments meant purely to induce them to go in a certain direction.
Starmer is ignoring the EU election results for #feelz.

BREAKING:
Keir Starmer announces that the UK is lowering the voting age from 18 to 16 in all UK elections. pic.twitter.com/HOAbkCJJ1R

He and his party presume the kiddies will do their bidding at their peril.
…The impacts of the change, however, are far from certain. Polling of 500 aged 16 and 17 conducted by Merlin Strategy for ITV News showed Labour had most support with 33%, ahead of Reform UK on 20% and the Conservatives on 10%. But half of them thought they should not yet be allowed to vote, and only 18% said they would definitely vote if there was an election tomorrow.
Only half said they had a positive view of democracy, and more than a fifth said they viewed a military strongman with no government or elections positively.
Simply because they’re children doesn’t mean they can’t see through a fraud. Sometimes their eyes are the clearest of all.
As for Starmer’s already historic unpopularity, that’s taking another beating with this news.

Then there’s the changing face of Britain, which Labour is doing its level best to enhance and cement at the expense of the British people.

People are also very aware of the demographics of a fair segment of 16-17-year-olds. There are quite legitimate concerns that the vote could be skewed by large numbers of younger recipients of Starmer’s largesse.
illegal 16 year old migrants included?. Because Keir knows they will all vote for labour, while they giving out benefits and making our own pay for them….https://t.co/q1mMZN2WIF

In the meantime, this two-year-old article is looking prescient.

Although when it was first published, the teenage vote floated, Starmer had a bright future. He hadn’t been elected yet and was merely dreaming big.
WHAT WOULD I DO IF I RAN THE ZOO
Now he’s a near-universally despised failure who seems to have no compunction over utilizing any measures at his disposal to stay in power.
