A fuming wedding guest has revealed how she was only picked to be her friend’s bridesmaid because of her hair colour.
Taking to Reddit, the bridesmaid, who is from the US, said she was ‘surprised’ when a high school friend, from whom she’d grown apart and hadn’t seen in over two years, asked her to be part of her bridal party.
She admitted that she agreed to take on the role ‘for old times’ sake’ but stated that she would have declined had she known the real reason she was chosen as one of the six bridesmaids – because she’s a brunette.
After the wedding, the guest heard that the bride had told her friends that they hadn’t been selected because they have brown hair – even expressing remorse that one of them had even recently dyed their locks blonde.
In her post, which she shared on the Reddit thread r/weddingshaming, the bitter guest shared the moment she found out the truth: ‘The bachelorette party included friends who weren’t bridesmaids and by the end of the night, apparently the bride told these friends that they weren’t bridesmaids because they weren’t brunette!!
‘As one of the friends tells it, the bride told her that it was such a shame she had gone back to her natural blonde because otherwise she would have been in the wedding party.
‘She said this in earshot of the other blondes. Apparently, the bride wanted to be the only blonde at the altar so she picked her bridesmaids from her brunette contacts.’
She concluded: ‘I can only assume she reached out to me after so long because I am brunette!’

‘I didn’t hear about this until after the wedding or I would have dropped out.’
The bridesmaid claimed the couple were clearly ‘too young and immature’ to get married – but said the bride and groom are still together.
As they were around ‘college age’, many over the guests weren’t 21 yet so the newlyweds didn’t serve alcohol and it ‘kind of felt like a prom’.
People rushed to the comments – with some even suggesting that the bridesmaids should have all dyed their hair blonde for the morning of the wedding just to be ‘petty’.
One person wrote: ‘After finding this out, the morning of the wedding you should’ve died your hair platinum Marilyn Monroe blond. No, I take that back – bright lipstick Lucille Ball red.’
Another added: ‘Or what if they did malicious compliance and showed up with their hair all different colors except brown or blonde?
‘Bride wanted to be the only blonde, she’s still the only blonde but now her bridesmaids look like a neon rainbow and are definitely more eye-catching in the photos than the bride is.’
Another joked: ‘See, this is why, as a blonde, I just don’t make friends with other blondes in the first place. I have to be the only one!!!’

A fourth added: ‘Tell me you’re too young and immature to get married without telling me you’re too young and immature to get married.’
To which the bridesmaid added: ‘The couple is still married but this wedding was the picture of too young and immature to get married.
‘It kind of felt like a prom and that wasn’t helped by the fact that not all of the guests were over 21 so the couple didn’t serve alcohol.
‘(I’ve been to sober weddings that don’t feel like proms, btw, this is not a dig at sober weddings).’
Previously, a bride’s sister revealed her sibling’s ‘mean girl’ strategy for ensuring she looks nothing short of stunning in her wedding pictures.
The 24-year-old US-based woman told how her older sister was so determined not to be outshone on her big day that she asked ‘ugly friends’ to be her bridesmaids in place of her closest pals.
The younger sister, who was herself asked to be a bridesmaid, explained that the bride’s approach was so unethical to her that she ended up turning the role down.
Taking to the ‘Am I The A******?’ thread on Reddit, the anonymous woman admitted that she was initially ‘excited’ at the prospect of being her sister’s bridesmaid – but that all changed when she discovered ‘who the rest of the bridal party was.’
She explained: ‘Every single one of them is someone she’s either not that close to or has made fun of before for being awkward’ or not photogenic.
‘Some of her actual best friends – the ones who she sees all the time – weren’t even asked’.
Baffled by her older sibling’s choice of bridesmaids, the younger sister decided to chat about the decision with her.
Recalling the bride’s revealing response, the sister added: ‘She kind of laughed and said, ‘You’ll understand when it’s your wedding. You don’t want people who’ll outshine you in your own pictures’.’
Uncomfortable with the bride’s logic, the sister probed further, asking: ‘So you picked them because you think they’ll make you look better?’
At this, the bride ‘rolled her eyes’ and told her sister: ‘It’s not that deep. I just want to feel confident that day, and I’m allowed to be a little selfish for my wedding’.
