Candace Owens used to be a thing. She is smart, gorgeous, an outspoken conservative, and bat excrement crazy.
She has always been out there, of course, but more as a provocateur than a nutcase. Her outspoken advocacy and willingness to take on the race-baiters raised her profile so much that she landed a spot at the prestigious Daily Wire–a position she forfeited when she became an outspoken conspiracy theorist on the issue of Israel.
She claimed that her ouster was driven by her opposition to US support for Israel’s war in Gaza, but things are more complicated than that. Matt Walsh is a skeptic, tending toward isolationism and a Fortress America stance, and his perch is safe as one of the company’s most visible and popular hosts.

The problem was that Candace’s advocacy veered perilously close to antisemitism. I can’t see into her heart, so I won’t comment on that, but her hatred for Israel is manifest. Her position seems closer to Israel Last than America First, and that was incompatible with the editorial stance of the Daily Wire, as was her increasing hostility to Ben Shapiro, not just his opinions.

What’s different now about Candace is her embrace of things like lighting yourself on fire to protest Israel:
Aaron Bushnell self-immolated back in 2024 to alert the American people to the fact that our military was involved in the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

Her hatred of Israel is so great that she is now encouraging American soldiers to refuse lawful orders from the President and accept dishonorable discharges from the military rather than fight in the Middle East.

Get “dishonorably discharged” instead of following orders that they don’t like.
There’s no defending this.

She, even though Trump’s position on Iran’s acquisition of a nuclear weapon has remained the same for two decades, is claiming that he has chosen to ally with the neoconservatives who have dedicated themselves to destroying Trump. While it is true that on this issue the neocons and Trump share similar opinions, it is hardly true that Trump and they are aligned.

Trump is not doing this FOR the neocons or Benjamin Netanyahu. He is doing this because he believes that Iran is an implacable enemy to the United States that has been attacking our troops, our material, and our country for decades. It’s hard to see how “America First” and allowing a country that opens its Parliamentary days with shouts of “Death to America” to get a nuclear weapon are compatible.

I’d say it’s pretty natural for Trump to see Iran as an enemy. The Biden administration–no fan of Trump–acknowledged that Iran was hiring assassins and smuggling in operatives to kill Trump and other US citizens and officials.

Iran has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans, including attacks on our soldiers. It is our enemy, and proudly so. America First necessarily means Iran Last.
I do not believe that opposing Israel’s Gaza policies can only be motivated by antisemitism. Nor do I believe that opposing US intervention in Iran is an opinion that should be outside the Overton Window of acceptable opinion. I happen to disagree, but respectable people can hold these opinions for respectable reasons.
Many of the people who hold these opinions are not respectable, though. They simply hate Israel, and many hate Jews.
But encouraging US soldiers to refuse lawful orders and applauding nutcases who burn themselves alive is bats**t crazy, and an example of why her separation from the Daily Wire was necessary. These are not reasonable opinions, and neither is Candace Owens.
