Has Beyonce been househunting in the Cotswolds? Star ‘takes a helicopter ride to view a mansion in sleepy British hotspot’ after close friend Ellen DeGeneres made a similar move

Beyonce has sparked speculation she could be looking for a new home in The Cotswolds, after the singer reportedly took a helicopter ride to view a mansion in the Oxfordshire hotspot.

The singer, 43, recently wrapped up the London leg of her Cowboy Carter tour, and a source has now claimed the star has been looking at a property in the countryside.

MailOnline previously revealed that Beyonce and Jay-Z were considering a move to the UK, after Los Angeles was devastated by wildfires earlier this year.

A source has now told The Oxford Mail: ‘In the past week, Beyonce and Jay-Z flew via helicopter between her London gigs to view a 58-acre plot of land,’ said the insider.

‘Located close to friends Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and with Simon Cowell and the Beckhams as neighbours, she felt it would be an ideal UK home for her family, away from the city when they’re in the country.’

The publication reported that Beyonce and Jay-Z’s visit took place between her shows in the capital with the singer reportedly landing at Enstone Airfield.

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Beyonce for comment.

Source previously told The Mail’s Eden Confidential that Beyonce and Jay-Z are keen to plant roots in the UK.

An friend of the couple said: ‘The wildfires have given them a good reason to look outside of Los Angeles to build new bases.

‘They will always be based in LA but the UK is on the agenda. Beyonce loves the UK because they support everything she does.’

The couple, adds the pal, are ‘focused on the Cotswolds now because of the land and space. They’ve stayed there.

‘They’ve been looking for properties and will buy if they find somewhere that feels like home, but are looking at short-term agreements while they make their decision.’

A rental arrangement could be tasty for someone with a property that meets the couple’s standards.

In 2017, Beyonce and Jay-Z moved into a 12,000 sq ft residence in Malibu, just after the singer gave birth to twins, Rumi and Sir.

With a cinema, gym, wine cellar and ocean views, La Villa Contenta was theirs for $400,000 (£300,000) a month.

Later that summer, the couple, who also have an older daughter, Blue Ivy, 13, paid $88million (£66million) for a 30,000 sq ft mansion in Bel Air, California, with eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, four swimming pools and a 15-car garage.

‘Beyonce wants touring to feel as normal as possible for the kids which is why hotels aren’t ideal,’ explains the pal.

Definitions of ‘normal’ vary, of course. In 2023, Beyonce and Jay-Z, while retaining the property in Bel Air, broke the record for a Californian house sale, paying $200million (£150million) for a 40,000 sq ft mansion.

‘They have two [UK] properties in mind,’ the friend added.

Beyonce wouldn’t be the first big US name looking to relocate to the sleepy British countryside, with Ellen also making a move across the Atlantic last year, in a bid to escape the ‘perils’ of Donald Trump’s America.

However, Ellen and her wife Portia Del Rossi have since moved to the safety of higher ground in a spectacular new property which is perched on a hilltop on the edge of a village in Oxfordshire, after their first home was hit by flooding.

It is around a 30 minute drive from their original home and planning documents show it has a ‘sustainable drainage system’ and is not ‘at risk of flooding’.

The couple have recently posted pictures taken around their new home which they are believed to have bought for around £15 million – but there could be issues with their new home too if they haven’t been briefed on the property’s grisly past.

A Cotswolds property expert told us: ‘The house is a real Grand Designs number – and it’s plain that Ellen and Portia are loving it.

‘Everything has been done very discreetly so it’s not clear what the terms of the deal was but it seems that it has recently changed hands for not much less than they paid for their previous place.

‘To buy two properties for eight figure sums in the space of a few months really is unusual, even given the many multi-millionaires around here.

‘And at even a conservative estimate it must have cost Ellen hundreds of thousands of pounds in fees and costs to change her mind so dramatically – perhaps millions.’

At the time she first moved to England, DeGeneres – who stepped back from the media spotlight after ending her long-running talk show in 2022 – was so keen to make a quick getaway that she was prepared to pay £2.5 million over than the asking price.

But their new life in the quaint English countryside quickly went dramatically wrong – after the seemingly-idyllic bolthole was swamped by astonishing flooding just days after they moved in.

Dramatic images showed the six bedroomed property had become surrounded by a torrent of flood water following the devastating impact of Storm Bert last November.

The couple were left virtually marooned after a tributary of the River Thames which runs beside the property broke its banks.

Roads surrounding the bolthole were left impassable after being deluged in five feet of water – leaving locals trapped in their homes.

It was the first of a series of setbacks for the couple, who are both retired, as they struggled to fit into their new country life.

They found themselves in something of a tight spot after discovering their vintage Land Rover Defender was barely wide enough to squeeze through bollards which restricted the width of vehicles entering their local village.

Locals reported that the couple had taken to making a detour of a mile-and-a half to get round the issue.

Last month it was reported that the couple were planning to leave the mansion and were looking for other properties in the area.

But the move seems to have gone down well with both.

In April, DeGeneres gave fans their first glimpse of her new home.

The comedian posted an image on Instagram of Portia surveying the spectacular view from their new property with the image also featuring a rainbow.

Describing the ‘three things which make me happy’ to her 136 million followers she wrote: ‘My wife, a rainbow and my wife taking a photograph of a rainbow.’

She also recently shared videos of the couple’s growing family of chickens that they keep at the grounds.
